The LAA Bristol Wing 5/11/11

Who are we?

LAA Bristol Wing is a 'club' of the Light Aircraft Association. We have about 60 members including pilots and aviation enthusiasts from all over the region (some out of the region). We have members that fly CAA Certified aircraft and some that fly LAA Permit to Fly aircraft. Some fly both types. What bonds us all is a love of aviation in its many forms.

Where do we Meet

Our meetings are held jointly with Bristol Aero Club at BAWA the old British Aerospace Welfare Association facility on Southmead Road, Filton in Bristol. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month (except July/August) at 19:30 for 20:00hrs in room 7.

What do we do?

A Wing evening will typically consist of a talk by a guest speaker. Examples of previous speakers can be found in out newsletter archive

These have recently included:

CAA Safety evenings attended by pilots from all over our region.

Dave Organ, author and authority on Gyroplanes.

Manuel Queiroz, World record breaking solo circumnavigator and author.

In September 2009 we invited NATS Bristol along to talk about the new airspace.

In between these talks, we held ‘members evenings’ where discussions took place about all things aeronautical, with the occasional slide show.

Outside events have included trips to Nympsfield, where the Gliding Club gave us rides in their gliders, and last July we went to Kemble airfield for a look around the magnificent Bristol Aero Collection. An interesting program of events for the coming year has already been proposed, and we are always open to suggestions for interesting speakers.

Meeting content is announced and reported in our 'Bristol Wings' Newsletter. Back issues of our newsletters are online here
